Snorkeling with the fish at the Blue Bay Marine Park, Mauritius. Come and enjoy a boat trip in a glass bottom boat and see all the different types of coral and swim with the fish. The Marine park at Blue Bay has an area of  about 353 hectares and has an average depth of 5.5 meters. There are about 50 different species of corals and many types of beautiful fish. Blue Bay has one of only two on the beautiful tropical Island of Mauritius .The other Marine Park is at Balaclava on the West coast. The Marine Park is only 1 Km from Jonash Apartment.  There are many places to visit near Pointe d’esny which is very close to the village of “Mahebourg” which was once the Capital of Mauritius before Port Louis became the Capital.

Still full of charm with a mix of Colonial and modern buildings .Here you will find the the “Historical Naval Museum” with which tells the story of the sea battles between the French and the British.

 

 

Monday Market

Not to be missed is the “Monday Market” which is when traders come from all over the country to sell their wares

whether it be fruit and vegetables, clothing such as pashminas,

T shirts, jeans, textiles etc (be warned, many items are not genuine brands) plus  there a

general household items.

Mahebourg Market is just 4.5 Km from Pointe d’esny, A short ride by bus or taxi or can be reached on foot.

 

 

 

 The Raoult biscuit factory

You can visit “The Raoult biscuit factory” at “Ville Noire” which has been producing manioc biscuits since 1870 and is

still run by the same “Seneque” family ( 4th generation ).

 

 

 

 

Ile aux Aigrettes

A small island just a short distance from the “Preskil beach resort”

which is run by “The Mauritius Wildlife Fund” and is home to some of the rarest and endangered birds such as the “Mauritian Kestral” and “Pink Pigeon” “Mauritius Fody”not to mention the “Green Gecko” and “Giant Tortoise”

 

 

 

 

The Blue Bay Marine Park

The Blue Bay Marine Park

The Marine Park, not to be missed, protected by the Government and is home to many different species of “Flora and

Fauna” with over 70 types of “Coral” and teeming with over 30 species of “tropical fish”.

You can visit the “Marine Park” with any of the boat operators at “Blue Bay Beach”. Go by “Glass Bottom Boat” and if you wish you get the opportunity to snorkel with the fish.

Only 1 Km from Pointe d’esny.

Just up the coast from “Mahebourg” is the “The Frederik Hendrik Museum” home to the

“Dutch Ruins”. The Dutch were the first inhabitants of Mauritius in the 1638 until 1710.

The Museum holds many items as a result of continuing archaeological excavations. well worth a visit.
